Raw wool

We shear the animals in early April and again in August. Winter wool (April shearing) is more abundant and contains longer fibers - 6 to 8 inches. Summer wool (August shearing) contains shorter fibers, 3 to 4 inches, and is usually of finer texture. Lambs are shorn just under one year of age.

Because the animals spend most of their time outdoors in the pasture, the raw fleeces are quite clean - free of dirt, chaff and usually with little matting.
